Meet Jamie

Jamie Roberts (she/her) LMFT96181

Hey, I’m Jamie! Welcome to the inner workings of my brain. As soon I learn something new, I eagerly want to share it. That is what inspired the name Expand. I want to Expand what we know of Neurodiversity, Expand our community of Neurodivergent Affirming Therapists, and most importantly Expand accessibility to resources.

With a later in life diagnosis of ADHD, Autism, and Dyslexia, I see my path to this moment from two different viewpoints: the linear progression and reflecting on how my undiagnosed neurodivergent self sought answers.  I started my career as a therapist with a passion for working with teens and the goal of becoming the person I needed when I was younger. It was perfect alignment that my first internship as a therapist was with an adolescent psychiatrist specializing in ADHD and Autism.  I began providing psychosocial assessments and working with families and teens who were already identified as ADHD and/or Autistic and WOW did I connect with my clients! The more I learned the more I saw myself in their experiences.

In 2019, I opened my own group practice Equilibrium Counseling Services with the primary focus of teens. Very quickly I noticed many of our clients presented with executive function challenges, sensory sensitivity, and emotional dysregulation. At this practice, we created a team of neurodivergent therapists to intentionally focus on the intersection of Neurodivergent and LGBTQIA+ teens and young adults. This includes affirming identity work, instilling confidence, and supporting family systems overall.  In my own journey, I finally connected the dots and was diagnosed ADHD and began my deep dive into Neurodiversity, which led to self-identifying as Autistic in 2023.

Now my goal is to better understand the nuances of Neurodiversity and create affirming spaces for clinicians to support clients in understanding and embracing their identity. For years I provided one-on-one care. That grew into supervision, consultation, and podcast discussions. Now, I am expanding once more for a greater ripple effect. In 2024, I created Expand Clinical Training as a central location to provide affirming and educational training. That’s where you come in! As clinicians we meet people in very vulnerable spaces who are seeking to understand themselves. It’s not always easy, it’s definitely exhausting, but it’s also beautifully colorful, and unique. I am so excited that you are on this journey with me!
